FIELD WORK

 

Galapagos Islands (Eastern Tropical Pacific; Autumn 2008)

  • 3-week cruise aboard Ecuadorian ship BAE Orion

  • assisted Ecuadorian Navy (Armada del Ecuador) with collection of chemical, physical, and biological samples of Eastern Tropical Pacific in order to assess El Niño conditions

  • crossed Equator aboard naval ship; Imperium Neptuni Regis (Order of Shellbacks) on 1 October 2008, en route from Isla Santa Cruz to Guayaquil (00°00' S, 89°27' W)

 

Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (Gulf of Mexico; Autumn 2006)

  • 2-week cruise aboard NOAA Ship Nancy Foster

  • participated in annual monitoring cruise, and obtained samples of zooplankton for genetic analysis

 

Grand Staircase (Western United States; Spring 2005)

  • 2-week field camp as part of Geological Field Trips class

  • visited Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon National Parks, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead

  • trained in map reading (geologic and topographic), map production (stratigraphic and cross-sectional), use of Brunton compass, GPS units, and other geoscience equipment

 

Clute, TX (Brazoria County, TX; Spring 2004)

  • one month of weekend fieldwork with Center for the Study of the First Americans (Texas A&M University)

  • supported recovery and preservation of Columbian mammoth “Asiel” at archaeological site

 

Mason, TX (Mason County, TX; Spring 2004)

  • 1-week field camp as part of Geological Field Methods class

  • trained in map reading (geologic and topographic), map production (stratigraphic and cross-sectional), use of Brunton compass, GPS units, and other geoscience equipment

 

Ft Bliss (El Paso, TX; AUG 2016)

Ft Hood (Killeen, TX; AUG 2013, JUN 2014, AUG 2014, JUN 2015, APR 2016)

  • 6 instances of 2-week annual training for field artillery unit (B 1-133 FA)

  • used military GIS systems to control and direct artillery fires

 

Camp Bowie (Brownwood, TX; JUL 2011)

  • 2-week annual training for cavalry unit (HHT 1-112 CAV)

  • navigated across terrain to designated targets using map and compass while maintaining communication (Spur Ride)

       trained and communicated with soldiers of the Chilean Army (Ejército de Chile)
